Standard EN 10217-1
EN 10217-1 is a European standard that specifies the technical delivery conditions for circular non-alloy steel tubes for pressure purposes at room temperature. These tubes are intended for use in a wide range of industrial applications, such as pipelines, boilers, and pressure vessels.
The standard covers a range of technical specifications that apply to the manufacture, testing, and delivery of steel tubes. These specifications include the material requirements, the manufacturing processes, and the testing procedures that must be followed to ensure the tubes meet the required quality standards.
Material Requirements: The steel used to manufacture these tubes must be non-alloy steel with a maximum carbon content of 0.20%. The steel must be suitable for welding, and it must have a minimum yield strength of 235 N/mm².
Manufacturing Processes: EN 10217-1 covers two manufacturing processes for steel tubes: electric resistance welding (ERW) and submerged arc welding (SAW). ERW tubes are formed from hot-rolled steel coils that are cold-formed into a tube shape and welded longitudinally. SAW tubes are made from hot-rolled steel plates that are formed into a tube shape and then welded using a submerged arc welding process.
Testing Procedures: The standard requires that the tubes undergo various tests to ensure their quality and safety. These tests include a non-destructive test (such as eddy current testing or ultrasonic testing) to detect any surface or internal defects, a tensile test to measure the tube's mechanical properties, and a flattening test to check the tube's resistance to deformation.
The standard also specifies the technical delivery conditions for the tubes, which includes the required dimensions, tolerances, and lengths of the tubes. The tubes must be delivered in a normalized condition, which means that they are heat-treated to achieve a uniform grain structure and improve their mechanical properties.
EN 10217-1 classifies the steel tubes into three categories based on their mechanical properties: P, H, and L. The P category represents tubes with a minimum yield strength of 235 N/mm², the H category represents tubes with a minimum yield strength of 275 N/mm², and the L category represents tubes with a minimum yield strength of 355 N/mm².
